The Telde City Council has opened the Arnao modular car park to the public, offering 166 free spaces to residents and visitors starting Monday, October 19, 2026. This opening ends a long wait and addresses the parking demand in an area of significant educational, administrative, and commercial activity within the municipality.
The facility's operation begins after receiving favorable reports from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and approval from the Telde City Council's Urban Planning Department. Mayor Juan Antonio Peña emphasized the importance of opening the infrastructure without ceremony, stating that the goal was to resolve the problems and obstacles that had delayed its opening for years, such as third-party breaches and administrative procedures.
Peña has decided that the car park will be completely free, prioritizing making life easier for residents, assisting families, and facilitating access to shops and services. The new two-level facility aims to alleviate parking pressure in the Arnao, San Juan, and San Gregorio areas.
The communicated public investment for this car park amounts to approximately 821,000 euros, co-financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (700,000 euros) and municipal funds (121,000 euros). The mayor specifically thanked the Councillor for Local Development, Nayra Navarro, the municipal public company FOMENTAS, the Councillor for Urban Planning, Juan Francisco Jiménez, and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, particularly insular minister Minerva Alonso.
The City Council opted for the direct opening of the facility, without inauguration ceremonies. According to the mayor, the true protagonists are the residents of Telde, who now have these 166 free parking spaces.
