The capital of Tenerife will implement a reorganization of its urban public transport system for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV. The plan, developed by the Mobility department of the Santa Cruz City Council and in collaboration with the Local Police, aims to ensure traffic flow and citizen safety by enhancing the use of buses and trams.
Frequency will be increased during peak hours, and shuttle buses will be provided to replace temporarily suspended lines. Additionally, an exclusive lane for these vehicles will be established on Avenida Tres de Mayo and Calle Fomento. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez highlighted the efforts to facilitate access to events and ensure safety, while Mobility Councilor Evelyn Alonso emphasized adapting the service to the population's needs.
Due to the closure of Avenida Francisco La Roche, lines 914, 920, and 921 will temporarily suspend their service between 06:00 and 17:00 on the 12th. Lines serving Anaga (916, 917, 945, 946, and 947), along with line 910, will modify their routes, starting and ending at the Muelle Norte stop. A shuttle line will connect this stop with the Intercambiador every 10-15 minutes.
Other lines such as 901, 902, 904, 905, 906, 908, 909, 912, 919, 934, 935, 936, 937, 940, and 941 will also have their routes altered between 09:00 and 12:30. Stops near the port and in the Salud-La Salle and Centro-Ifara districts will be cancelled, affecting multiple lines.
The Line 1 tram service will also undergo modifications. From 06:00, circulation will be limited between the Trinidad and Guimerá stops, with the route to La Paz being shortened from 10:30 onwards. The frequency will be maintained between 10 and 15 minutes for most of the day.
A provisional taxi stand will be set up on Avenida San Sebastián and Calle General Gutiérrez, while other stands, such as those on Calle El Pilar and Plaza del Cabildo, will be suspended during the event. All information is subject to change due to security arrangements and will be communicated through the City Council's official channels.
