The central events of the day include the traditional cross contest, the Book Fair, and the procession of the Foundational Cross, attracting a large number of citizens to participate in the festivities.
The celebration began early in the morning with the Natural Flower Crosses Contest, which this year features 24 installations distributed throughout the capital's neighborhoods. A specialized jury is evaluating these creations, and the verdict will be announced soon.
Concurrently, the Rambla de Santa Cruz hosts the XVII School Crosses Contest-Exhibition, where 36 educational centers have displayed their works made exclusively from recycled materials. Participation is divided into categories for Preschool and Infants, Primary and Special Education, and Secondary and Adults.
Additionally, in the section between the Paseo de las Tinajas and García Sanabria Park, another 12 crosses from institutions and private entities are exhibited, including those from the City Council itself, a well-known department store chain, a local sports club, and the five municipal districts.
The institutional and religious component began at 7:00 PM in the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción with a commemorative Solemn Eucharist, presided over by the bishop of the Diocese Nivariense and featuring the participation of the Contemporary Choir of Tenerife.
Subsequently, the procession with the Holy Foundational Cross took place, attended by the president of the Government of the Canary Islands and the city's mayor, along with other authorities. The processional route passed through the streets of Santo Domingo, La Noria and Padre Moore.
The cultural offerings are complemented by the Book Fair in García Sanabria Park, which features talks and literary presentations throughout the day at the Alfonso García Ramos Cultural Space and the Ángel Guimerá Cultural Space. For children, the same park hosted a Drawing and Painting Contest starting at 5:00 PM.
