This April, the television show reaches its sixth year of broadcasting, showing excellent form after recording its best historical March, with a 12.2% accumulated audience. Specific broadcasts achieved peaks of 25.6% audience share, such as on March 24.
For over half a decade, '1 Hora Menos' has covered significant events, including the volcanic eruption in La Palma. A program spokesperson recalled that the lava's arrival at the sea coincided with a broadcast, offering hours of public service to inform the population on how to protect themselves from vapors and provide reassurance amidst the emergency.
“"We are the closest TV, we tell what happens to our neighbors. This has great value. '1 Hora Menos' is already a brand in the Canary Islands."
Under the direction of an experienced team, the program has evolved to be closer to the citizens, accompanying them in their personal stories and offering a schedule closely tied to current events. The volcano coverage marked a before and after, being an informative, technical, and human challenge that reinforced the meaning of television as a public service.
The work carried out during the volcanic crisis in La Palma was recognized with a special mention at the 2021 Ondas Award, received by Televisión Canaria, and the National Television Award. Additionally, '1 Hora Menos' won the Pello Sarasola Award for Best Program of the Year 2021, granted by the Federation of Autonomous Televisions (Forta).
The key to its success lies in the pursuit of excellence, showcasing the authenticity of the Canary Islands, with pillars such as the primary sector, entertainment, and dissemination. The connection with the audience is strengthened through viewer participation, who contribute videos, calls, and stories, making the program a collaborative and engaging space.
