Social Security has enabled a special agreement for those who completed academic or training internships without contributions to recover up to five years of contribution periods until December 31, 2028.

Undertaking internships during training is a common step for many young people seeking experience before entering the job market. However, for years, these internships did not always translate into contributions to Social Security. Now, there is an opportunity to rectify those periods.
Since 2024, individuals who completed academic and training internships without contributions before specific dates (before 2024 for unpaid internships, or before November 1, 2011, in other cases) can sign a special agreement. This mechanism allows for up to five years, equivalent to a maximum of 1,825 days, to be counted and will be available until the end of 2028.
The measure covers university students who completed internships for official degrees (bachelor's, master's, doctorate) or university-specific titles. It also includes Vocational Training students, provided the internships were not labor-related or conducted under specific schemes.
Furthermore, it encompasses higher and professional artistic education, as well as sports education within the educational system. Participants in research training programs, both in Spain and abroad, can also benefit.
The cost of this special agreement is calculated according to Order ISM/812/2024. The monthly contribution base will be based on the minimum for group 7 of the General Regime, and the resulting amount is reduced by a coefficient of 0.77. Payment can be made in a lump sum or in installments up to a maximum of 84 monthly payments.
