The Government of the Canary Islands, through its Ministry of Tourism and Employment, has driven the restoration of the historic facades in Betancuria, Fuerteventura, with an investment of 100,000 euros.

The works for the adaptation, conditioning, and rehabilitation of the exterior of homes in the most transited streets of Fuerteventura's historic town have allowed the facades to recover their traditional colors, such as indigo and garnet. This initiative is part of the 'Most Beautiful Villages of Spain in the Canary Islands' program.
The project, which was awarded for a total amount of 117,701 euros, falls under the nominated subsidy for the network of 'Most Beautiful Villages of Spain in the Canary Islands'. This initiative aims to preserve and enhance the architectural heritage of these localities.

"The fact that this first national agreement was signed in Betancuria is not a coincidence, but a recognition of the unique value of this historic town in Fuerteventura and the work being done for its preservation."

Héctor Mateo · Director General of Infrastructure, Sustainability and Tourist Quality
Mateo Castañeyra, Director General of Infrastructure, Sustainability and Tourist Quality, emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and Employment to the municipality. Additionally, complementary actions have been detailed, such as the investment of 293,021 euros in 2024 for the conditioning of the rest area and the pedestrian path of Vega de Río Palma. For 2025, 86,500 euros are planned for the drafting of an ecofriendly hostel project, thus consolidating the tourist and sustainable development of the area.
