The president of the Cabildo de El Hierro has reaffirmed his commitment to complete his current term, despite governing in a minority, and has challenged the opposition to present a motion of no confidence.

During the annual insular policy session, opposition groups, Agrupación Herreña Independiente (AHI) and Asamblea Herreña (AH), criticized the government's lack of dialogue and agreements. They invited the president to submit to a vote of confidence, arguing that the majority of the chamber lies with the opposition.

"I intend to serve until the end of the legislature. Present a motion of no confidence or continue aligning with Cabrera's party to overturn government initiatives."

A spokesperson for Asamblea Herreña (AH) pointed to a situation of paralysis within the institution, attributing it to the governing group's inability to reach consensus. They mentioned the absence of projects for population retention and the stagnation of essential works and services, also calling for the declaration of insular interest for the construction of educational infrastructure in Hoya del Juez, in Valverde.
Meanwhile, a representative from Agrupación Herreña Independiente (AHI) criticized the wear and tear of the insular government, stating that the current situation of the Cabildo is one of “command and control” and that the lack of a clear roadmap has generated a feeling of weariness among the population. They asserted that the island has regressed over the past year.
The president of the Cabildo condemned the opposition's rejection of an 18 million euro credit modification, holding them responsible for the potential halt of some initiatives. He denied disrespecting anyone and apologized if anyone felt offended, announcing future meetings with the opposition to seek agreements on “essential issues for the island's governance.”
