The Cabildo of Gran Canaria is exploring three legal avenues to continue with the reform and expansion of the Gran Canaria Stadium, known as 'La Nube', after the tender for the works was left without an award.

Following a technical meeting led by the President of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, and the Minister of Sports, Aridany Romero, it has been decided to maintain the alternatives provided for by legislation to bring the project to fruition. These options include a negotiation process with companies of recognized solvency, modification of the architectural project to facilitate its execution, and the opening of a new tender.
The main objective is to promote the completion of a state-of-the-art facility for future generations and to make it an attractive venue for the 2030 World Cup. Morales emphasized the importance of the island being a host for this global sporting event, recalling Gran Canaria's inclusion among the proposed venues and the confirmation of the joint bid by FIFA.
Minister Aridany Romero reaffirmed the Cabildo's commitment to creating this facility, describing it as a "great economic driver" and a "pause" in the procedure. All actions permitted by the Public Sector Contracts Law are being analyzed to ensure the project's continuity and maintain the island's reliability as a partner for the World Cup.
The official statement does not detail the viability of contracting through a negotiated procedure, an option that the construction employers' association considers unfeasible. Nor does it include assessments on a possible budget increase, which constructors deem necessary due to the discrepancy between tender costs and market prices. The information also does not delve into the stadium's completion deadline, set by FIFA for July 2029.
