The National Police has apprehended two individuals, a 23-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in connection with the homicide of an 82-year-old German citizen that occurred in Playa del Inglés last March, following a meeting arranged through a dating application.

The investigation began after the Court was notified of the victim's death. The victim had been admitted to the Insular Hospital after suffering an assault in southern Gran Canaria. The tourist, who was temporarily staying in an apartment in Maspalomas, had contacted a man via a dating app for a private meeting. However, the main police hypothesis suggests that the suspect's real objective was robbery.
The events took place on the night of March 14-15 in the vicinity of a hotel complex in Playa del Inglés. Investigations indicate that the victim was found semi-conscious with significant head bleeding and was transferred to a hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The forensic medical report later confirmed that the death was homicidal.
Security camera analysis and collected statements allowed for the reconstruction of movements prior to the crime. Recordings showed the victim repeatedly entering and exiting the complex, seemingly waiting for someone, until finally meeting a 23-year-old man. Both entered the apartment together after meeting through a dating application. Approximately eighty minutes later, they left the property, and according to the images, a sudden assault occurred while the suspect manipulated the victim's mobile phone. The man fell to the ground after the attack.
The Police maintain that the alleged perpetrator subsequently fled the scene with two mobile phones, while several people assisted the octogenarian. During the investigation, officers detected an alleged repeated criminal pattern. According to police reports, the main suspect selected vulnerable victims through dating applications to steal their mobile phones and attempt to access banking applications and digital financial services linked to the devices.
Investigators suspect that this method was habitually used, preferably with tourists, taking advantage of the fact that many victims left the Canary Islands without reporting the robberies. The investigation also linked the suspect to similar incidents in other parts of the national territory and confirmed his frequent travels between Tenerife and Gran Canaria with a 43-year-old woman, who was allegedly involved in logistics and mobility tasks. Both were located and arrested in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and after being brought before the court, the Court ordered the alleged material perpetrator of the homicide to be imprisoned.
