The hospitalized childhood care program by Cruz Roja provides recreational activities and games to minors admitted to hospitals in Gran Canaria and Tenerife to improve their emotional well-being.

For children admitted to the Pediatrics ward, the hospital routine is interrupted by a highly anticipated visit: the Cruz Roja Juventud volunteer team. These sessions aim to recreate the atmosphere of a school recess, allowing minors to escape from medical treatments and enjoy moments of normalcy.
The project, which has been running for a decade, takes place in hospital complexes such as the Hospital Universitario de Canarias, the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, and the Hospital Materno Infantil. During 2025, the initiative assisted over 2,600 people, including both the minors and their family members.

"An admission, especially during childhood, completely changes their routine; to recover from their illness, they not only need physical care, but we must also take care of the emotional part and guarantee them a leisure space."

The work dynamic adapts to the needs of each patient. While some children can go to the common playroom, others receive personalized attention in their rooms. The volunteers, who receive specific training, emphasize that the main goal is to foster creativity and learning in a playful environment, also serving as a necessary respite for parents.
