The Cabildo of La Gomera and Red Cross have reinforced support for vulnerable individuals through a social intervention program funded with 100,000 euros of insular financing.

The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of those facing particular difficulties, through protection, inclusion, and strengthening of community support.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the importance of having resources and support mechanisms capable of responding to the island's diverse social realities, "especially in the face of unforeseen situations that may worsen the vulnerability of certain groups."
Curbelo emphasized the need to maintain stable collaboration with organizations and social entities active on the island, "facilitating that available resources can be directed towards those who need them most."
For her part, the insular councilor for Social Policy, Rosa Elena García, noted that strengthening community networks "allows us to complement the social care resources provided by the Cabildo and foster more coordinated responses between administrations, closer to the population's needs."
The project prioritizes the protection of life, health, and dignity for individuals affected by emergencies or crises. It also addresses factors that generate or sustain inequality, discrimination, and social exclusion, aiming to reduce barriers hindering well-being and participation.
A key feature of the program is its emphasis on participation as a tool to combat vulnerability, by strengthening social support networks through the involvement of volunteers, collaborating companies, and other external agents.
The initiative also incorporates an environmental intervention perspective, ensuring that support is not limited to individual circumstances but also helps identify and reduce social obstacles that perpetuate exclusion or inequality.
