The event, to be held at the El Cercado Social Center, primarily aims to promote youth participation in shaping the future of the Biosphere Reserve. It seeks to empower young people, aged 18 to 35, to become protagonists in the design and development of sustainability policies.
During the meeting, scheduled from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a representative for the Youth Network of the Biosphere Reserve will be elected. This initiative intends to establish a stable participation platform and connect young Gomerans with regional, national, and international forums.
“"This initiative represents an opportunity for young Gomerans to have a voice in building the island model we want for the future."
The president of the La Gomera Council, Casimiro Curbelo, emphasized that the Biosphere Reserve serves as a tool for progress, balancing conservation, well-being, identity, and opportunities. He stressed the importance of incorporating young perspectives into island planning, deeming their participation an institutional responsibility.
Meanwhile, the insular coordinator of the Biosphere Reserve, Diego Chinea, highlighted that the youth of La Gomera are prepared and committed to contributing to discussions on territory, biodiversity, green jobs, local culture, and climate change adaptation.
The program includes group dynamics, debates, and activities designed to generate concrete proposals regarding territory, sustainability, citizen participation, natural and cultural heritage, and future opportunities. The goal is to strengthen the connection between young people and the Biosphere Reserve.
Participation is encouraged from young people across all municipalities on the island. The event will provide free transportation and lunch. Registrations are open until July 5th via an online form.
