The intervention, part of the Gran Canaria-Fdcan island socioeconomic development program for 2025, includes construction and landscaping work. The main objective is to improve and condition the square, popularly known as 'the triangle', strengthening its functionality, accessibility, and urban integration.
Currently, the square occupies an area of 219.11 square meters, but after the intervention, it will expand to 357.41 square meters. Placita Galo Ponte, originally built in 1943 and later modified, aims to regain its utility and highlight its historical importance, given its proximity to the first houses of the town and its role in the daily life of locals in the mid-20th century, during the tomato boom.
To achieve these goals, the project proposes to expand the square towards the built block to the east and reduce the garden area, giving greater prominence to transit and rest areas. New accesses adapted to pedestrian flows and modern urban furniture for users' enjoyment will be included.
Furthermore, the original perimeter of the square will be highlighted using a constructive solution that combines various materials, allowing or preventing access and offering spaces for sitting or interacting more freely. Inside, informative panels about the history and relevance of the square will be installed.
The deadline for submitting bids remains open until May 19 at 10:59 PM. The opening of the single electronic file and economic offers is scheduled for May 20 at 10:30 AM in the City Council's Plenary Hall. The execution of the works will have an initial period of three months, under a simplified open procedure and urgent processing, allowing for a rapid transformation of this public space.
