The Monte Feliz – Desafío La Titánica cycling competition commenced this Saturday with a highly demanding inaugural stage. Participants faced a route of 18.3 kilometers with a positive elevation gain of 700 meters, testing their physical endurance and technical skills. The neutralized start took place from the Agüimes Auditorium, where the Sports Councilor of Agüimes, Alberto Santana, and the director of the Hotel Monte Feliz – powered by Playitas, Gloria Costa, officially started the race.
The initial section of the stage led the peloton through the iconic Barranco de Guayadeque, a distinctive landscape of the island. Subsequently, cyclists ascended the Alto Montaña Las Tierras, a crucial point where decisive attacks occurred, and the first significant differences in the general classification began to be established.
In the men's category, Blas Rivero emerged as the top finisher, completing the stage in 24 minutes, 13 seconds, and 63 hundredths. He was closely followed by Edgar Esteban Clemente, with a time of 24:16:91, and Matti Helminen, who secured third place with 24:16:99.
Meanwhile, in the women's category, victory went to Michela Santini, who recorded a time of 29 minutes, 24 seconds, and 94 hundredths. Second place was taken by Emma Vickman with 34:57:54, while Elena Soler finished in third place with 36:08:22.
The competition will continue on Sunday, April 12, with the second stage, considered one of the most challenging of the event. This stage will connect the municipalities of Agüimes and San Mateo, covering a route of 78 kilometers with a positive elevation gain of 2,300 meters, which will be crucial in determining the overall winners of the Monte Feliz – powered by Playitas Desafío La Titánica 2026.
The event is organized by DG Eventos and the Agüimes and San Mateo City Councils, with main sponsorship from Monte Feliz – powered by Playitas and institutional support from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through its departments of Tourism and Sport.
