The municipal group Nueva Canarias–Frente Amplio Canarista (NC-FAC) in the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has criticized the local government's intention to acquire an office building for a maximum of 1.765 million euros.

The party considers the operation difficult to justify and has demanded that the mayor, Francisco García, explain the necessity of purchasing a 2,500 square meter property with at least four floors for a public company that has an administrative staff of eleven workers.
The controversy arises after the publication of a preliminary market consultation initiated by the entity, whose board of directors is chaired by the mayor himself, to locate a building within a 500-meter radius of Los Algodoneros square, in Vecindario.
NC-FAC councilor, Leví Ramos, described the initiative as a "disaster difficult to explain to the citizens" and questioned the planned size of the property. "The mayor will have to explain why a public company with only eleven administrative staff members needs a 2,500 square meter, four-story building. That's over 225 square meters per worker. We want to know what technical report justifies this need," he stated.
Nueva Canarias also maintains that the political responsibility for this operation falls directly on the mayor, as he chairs the body that has promoted the procedure. The party believes that a minority municipal government should not commit an investment of this magnitude without broad political and social backing.
In this regard, Ramos asserted that the current local executive lacks the necessary legitimacy to push for a purchase of this nature. "Those who govern without a majority have the obligation to dialogue and reach consensus, not to act as if they have a blank check," he pointed out.
The nationalist party also criticizes the governing group's priorities, arguing that the operation contrasts with the condition of some municipal infrastructures. "We have cultural and sports facilities that require urgent investment, and yet the mayor's response is to propose buying an office building," indicated the councilor.
In light of this situation, NC-FAC has formally requested full access to the administrative file of the operation. Among the documentation required are the justification report for the purchase, technical, legal, and economic reports, valuations or appraisals, and the report supporting the required dimensions for the future property.
Furthermore, the party requests to know if the City Council has studied other real estate alternatives, including existing public facilities, that could cover the administrative needs of the Ateneo at a lower cost to the municipal coffers.
"If there is a solid technical justification, it should be made public. And if there isn't, this call should be withdrawn, and those resources should be allocated to improving the facilities already used by the municipality's residents," concluded Ramos.
