The installation of a photovoltaic plant at the Nilo Shopping Center has recently been completed, forming part of a broader project for the area. This infrastructure, with a nominal power of 275 kW and a peak of 276.48 kW, features 432 modules and six inverters, and is estimated to produce 549,208 kWh annually.
“"It will supply energy not only to the shopping center, but also to those partners of the Playa Energy Community who are within a 5-kilometer radius."
The energy generated by this plant could cover the consumption of approximately 158 homes, preventing the emission of over 314 tons of CO2 annually. This is equivalent to the energy needed to travel more than 4.2 million kilometers in electric vehicles, or the environmental impact of planting nearly 1,885 trees.
This project is part of a larger initiative that includes the installation of photovoltaic systems in nine buildings in the area, with a total power of 1.6 MWp and an annual generation of 2,790 MWh, enough to supply about 700 homes. The 1.5 million euro funding comes from European Next Generation funds, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and aims to reduce users' energy bills by 20% to 50%, in addition to preventing 1,615 tons of CO₂ annually.
Concurrently, on Avenida de Granada, another photovoltaic installation is progressing as part of the Impulsa Maspalomas Tourist Sustainability Plan in Destination. This infrastructure will have a nominal power of 100 kW and a peak of 105.78 kW, with 172 modules and two inverters, and an estimated annual production of 241,515 kWh. It is calculated to supply about 69 homes, prevent over 138 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, and generate the equivalent of nearly 1.8 million kilometers traveled by electric vehicles, with an impact similar to planting 829 trees. Additionally, it will incorporate electric vehicle charging points.
These actions, along with others in Plaza Miramar and Avenida de Gran Canaria, are part of the «Impulsa Maspalomas» project, also funded by European Next Generation funds, with the goal of strengthening tourist sustainability through green transition, energy efficiency, digitalization, and improved competitiveness. These initiatives position Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés as leaders in sustainability and energy transition in the tourism sector.
