These infrastructures, as announced by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, are designed to generate renewable energy for self-consumption and strengthen the Playa del Inglés Energy Community. A representative from the Cabildo recently visited two of these facilities, including the one at Nilo Shopping Center, where construction has already been completed.
The photovoltaic plant at Nilo Shopping Center, with a nominal power of 275 kW and 276.48 kW peak, is expected to produce 549,208 kWh annually. This initiative will cover the consumption of approximately 158 homes, prevent the emission of over 314 tons of CO2 per year, and generate energy equivalent to driving more than 4.2 million kilometers in electric vehicles.
“"It will supply energy not only to the shopping center, but also to those partners of the Playa Energy Community within a 5-kilometer radius."
This project is part of a broader strategy that includes the installation of photovoltaic systems in nine buildings in the area, with a total power of 1.6 MWp and an annual generation of 2,790 MWh, enough to supply about 700 homes. Funding comes from 1.5 million euros from European Next Generation funds, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and is estimated to reduce users' energy bills by between 20% and 50%.
Additionally, on Avenida de Granada, another photovoltaic installation is being developed as part of the Impulsa Maspalomas Tourist Sustainability Plan. This infrastructure will have a nominal power of 100 kW and 105.78 kW peak, with an estimated annual production of 241,515 kWh, and will also incorporate electric vehicle charging points.
