The decision, approved in a council meeting, responds to a forced expropriation procedure initiated by the land's owner. The municipality has been granted a three-month period to deposit the amount set as fair compensation after the judicial ruling, which the Council considers final as they are not appealing to the Supreme Court.
The Councilor for Finance, Ernesto Hernández, stated during the debate that since 2015, the Council has disbursed approximately 25 million euros for similar cases, stemming from urban planning decisions made by previous governments. The spokesperson for NC, Juan Manuel Gabella, expressed concern over the decrease in treasury reserves, which could impact the council's investment capacity. However, Hernández recalled a recent budget modification of 12 million, partly allocated to housing.
“"We are committed to resolving this."
In the same plenary session, it was unanimously approved to name the Virgin of Carmen, both from Mogán and Arguineguín, as perpetual and honorary mayor, recognizing her deep cultural and emotional roots. This distinction follows the recent honor bestowed upon the patron saint, Saint Anthony of Padua.
Furthermore, the corporate session unanimously approved the Cabildo's Cooperation Plan for 2027. This plan includes projects valued at 502,271 euros, such as the asphalting of several streets, including the GC-500 in Arguineguín and a section of Avenida Los Marrero in Playa de Mogán, as well as the third phase of photovoltaic lighting in Loma II.
