Significant traffic chaos unfolded on Monday afternoon along the Avenida Marítima in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, severely disrupting southbound traffic.

The congestion, which saw drivers stuck for over an hour to cover just a few meters, resulted from a combination of accidents and the closure of the GC-3 ring road due to maintenance work on the Guiniguada viaduct.
A multi-vehicle rear-end collision involving three cars occurred near the Ciudad de la Justicia. The 112 emergency service received the alert at 14:56, and according to the Local Police, no injuries were reported. A second collision at the same location shortly after further worsened the situation.
The Local Police has confirmed that traffic in the area has now been cleared and normal flow is expected to resume gradually. Both incidents took place between midday and early afternoon.
The closure of the GC-3, which lasted ten days for waterproofing work, has rerouted thousands of vehicles daily onto the Avenida Marítima. This diversion, coupled with the accidents, has led to considerable traffic jams, even during a typically less busy holiday period.
The traffic jams affected the stretch from El Sebadal to Torre Las Palmas, also incorporating traffic from Mesa y López and the Julio Luengo tunnel heading south.
