The Second Chamber of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has postponed the oral hearing against a father and his son, identified as E.A.S. and E.A.P., who allegedly occupied a bungalow in the Vista Flor tourist complex in Maspalomas. The prosecution claims the defendants used a master key to access several apartments and steal valuables such as mobile phones, headphones, watches, money, and documentation.
The trial's commencement was prevented by the absence of the father, the main defendant, who, according to his defense, could not attend due to health reasons. The Court has requested a medical report to justify this non-appearance; failure to provide it could result in an arrest warrant.
According to the Public Prosecutor's indictment, both individuals occupied bungalow 525 of the Vista Flor complex without permission since June 6, 2025. They are accused of using a master key, intended for establishment staff, to access apartments occupied by tourists. In one incident, the father was allegedly caught attempting to steal an iPad, and in others, he reportedly took a wallet with documents and a bank card, an iPhone 14, headphones, and 150 euros in cash.
Furthermore, the prosecution charges both with fraudulent use of a bank card obtained from one of the apartments to make a charge of 18.35 euros at a service station in the south of Gran Canaria, an amount later reimbursed to the victim by the bank.
For these acts, both face a trial for alleged minor offenses of property occupation and fraud. The father also faces a charge of continuous robbery with force in an inhabited dwelling. The prosecution seeks a fine of 2,700 euros for the occupation, six years in prison for the continuous robbery, and six months for the fraud. For the son, who has no prior convictions for recidivism, a fine of 2,700 euros for occupation and six months in prison for fraud are requested.
The main defendant has previous convictions for robbery with force. The Provincial Court of Las Palmas will need to set a new trial date once the absence of the main defendant is officially verified through the requested medical documentation.
