The Tinajo City Council has announced transport aid for students residing in the municipality for the 2025/2026 academic year, increasing the maximum allocation to 170,000 euros, 60,000 more than the previous year.

The initiative, driven by the Education department, aims to cover the travel expenses of young people who must leave Tinajo to continue their academic training. Mayor Jesús Machín highlighted the importance of this municipal support, stating that "education is an investment in the future and from the City Council we have the responsibility to accompany our young people on that path." He emphasized that the budget increase reflects the municipal commitment to policies supporting education and equal opportunities.
The Councilor for Education, Yurena Cubas, explained that the increase in the budget to 170,000 euros allows for strengthening a line of aid that responds to a specific need. "We want our young people to have the opportunity to continue studying and preparing for their future," she said, adding that transport represents a significant expense throughout the course and this aid aims to compensate for part of that economic effort.
The call is aimed at students registered and habitually residing in Tinajo for at least twelve months prior to the application deadline, who have pursued official studies outside the municipal area during the 2025/2026 academic year. This includes Baccalaureate, intermediate and higher vocational training cycles, equivalent professional studies, and official undergraduate and master's university studies.
The maximum amounts foreseen are 477.40 euros per student for those studying in Lanzarote (outside Tinajo) and 693 euros for those who must travel off the island. For large families, the maximum amounts are 554.40 and 808.50 euros, respectively. The final amounts will be subject to the conditions of the call and available budget.
The application period will be twenty working days starting from the day after the publication of the call's extract in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas. Applications can be processed through the electronic headquarters of the Tinajo City Council or via other legally established registration channels.
