Hundreds of people visited this Sunday morning the more than sixty floral carpets crafted for the Corpus Christi celebration in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. This tradition, with over 525 years of history, has transformed the streets of the historic center into ephemeral canvases of great color and creativity.
From Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, dozens of individuals from various social and cultural entities, neighborhood groups, brotherhoods, and parish groups worked on creating these natural works of art, which required the use of over 10,000 flowers.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, accompanied by the Councilor for Festivals, Dailos González, and other members of the local Corporation, toured the central area to recognize "the arduous work, effort, and commitment demonstrated by these true works of art, which help preserve this tradition so deeply rooted in our history and culture."
The La Laguna City Council, through the Festivals department and other municipal areas, annually supports this initiative. This year, over 10,000 flowers were provided for the creation of the open-air tapestries.
The day will continue in the afternoon with a solemn mass at the Cathedral, attended by Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and other municipal representatives. Following the religious ceremony, the traditional procession of the Blessed Sacrament will take place.
