Tamara Raya, general secretary of the PSOE of Tenerife, has expressed her willingness to participate in the party's internal process to lead the candidacy for the Cabildo de Tenerife, once the corresponding organic calendar opens. During her address to the Insular Committee, Raya defended the need to maintain a strong and useful socialist political project for the island's social majority, especially in the current political context.
The socialist leader warned that the PSOE's internal difficulties should not be exploited to weaken the defense of public services, equal opportunities, and social rights in Tenerife. She asserted that the island needs a political project focused on people, far from "headlines, empty announcements, or false promises."
Raya criticized the management of the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular with the support of Vox. She pointed out that the island is "stuck in permanent announcements," with projects that do not materialize and recurring promises while citizen problems persist.
The socialist general secretary emphasized that Tenerife cannot afford to regress in crucial areas such as housing, public healthcare, dependency care, education, or mobility. She highlighted the PSOE's role in ensuring that institutions serve the social majority and not just a few.
She defined "caring for Tenerife" as building public hospitals and health centers, ensuring access to housing, addressing mobility issues, protecting natural spaces, and guaranteeing dignified care for the elderly and dependent individuals. She advocated for recovering "transformative ambition" against an insular government focused on propaganda.
Finally, she recalled that the PSOE of Tenerife has won all electoral appointments on the island since May 2023, consolidating a project that connects with the social majority and with those seeking a more just Tenerife with opportunities. She concluded that difficult times should not be an excuse to abandon the defense of social rights or to hand over institutions to those who "have been promising much and resolving little for years."
