Residents of El Sobradillo in Santa Cruz de Tenerife are experiencing a situation of helplessness due to the recurrence of arson attacks on waste containers. Last night, four containers on El Justillo street were completely destroyed by fire, adding to previous incidents in the area and causing concern among residents.
The situation has escalated to the point where many residents avoid parking their vehicles near waste collection points for fear of damage. "We no longer park in that area because of what might happen," confesses one resident, reflecting the powerlessness against what they denounce as a dangerous "routine."
Despite special surveillance measures by the Local Police of Santa Cruz, acts of vandalism persist. In previous instances, Iris street, parallel to the most recent incident, has also been a target of furniture fires.
Residents are calling for more drastic measures, such as the installation of surveillance cameras in the area to identify those responsible and hold them accountable. "This cannot continue like this," they state.
The incidents of the early morning required the intervention of the Tenerife Firefighters and Local Police patrols. In addition to the four burnt-out containers on El Justillo street, a car fire on Juan Rumeu García street was extinguished, which is also suspected to have been intentionally started.
The public is demanding solutions to this wave of vandalism that is disrupting safety and peace in the capital's neighborhoods.
