The Cabildo de Tenerife has completed improvement works on the accesses to the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate, an action valued at 2.9 million euros aimed at eliminating the historical traffic congestion affecting the more than 70,000 vehicles that pass through the area daily.
The president of the island corporation, accompanied by the island councillor for Mobility and the island councillor for Roads, as well as the vice-councillor for Infrastructure of the Government of Canarias and municipal representatives from Arafo, Güímar, and Candelaria, visited the facilities to confirm the completion of the works.
“
"The traffic jams that occurred at the accesses to the Industrial Estate, an economic and industrial hub where more than 5,000 people work and which registers high traffic density, with about 3,000 vehicles per hour, have been eliminated."
The project, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of Canarias, was taken over by the Cabildo in 2024 through a cooperation framework agreement, with the aim of expediting its execution and financing. The works focused on the Arafo links and were developed in phases, with visible results since the first stage was completed the previous year.
“
"The first phase was completed last year, and the results are visible. There is less congestion, more safety, and more agile travel for the 70,000 vehicles that pass through here daily, 5,000 of which are trucks, trailers, and other heavy vehicles."
The intervention included the creation of new direct lanes and the expansion and reconfiguration of the roundabouts accessing the industrial estate, which houses 300 companies. These measures have successfully unblocked one of the island's main traffic bottlenecks, facilitating travel and industrial activity.
“
"What used to be a complete collapse, with constant incidents in transport and schedules, has been urgently and efficiently resolved thanks to collaboration between administrations."
The new direct lanes constructed include one from the TF-281 towards the TF-1 in the South direction, another from the TF-1 (Santa Cruz) towards the El Carretón Industrial Estate, two lanes from the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate towards the TF-1 in the Santa Cruz direction, and one lane from the TF-1 in the South direction towards the industrial estate. These improvements have been celebrated by local authorities and the business sector, highlighting the project's importance for the economic development of southern Tenerife.
