The agreement, with an initial duration of two years, aims to reduce the generational gap in accessing the digital environment, foster citizen empowerment, the autonomy of older adults, and ensure access to knowledge on equal opportunities. The initiative promotes training in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), online safety, and support for creating social entrepreneurship projects and technological volunteering.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, highlighted that the program will offer free activities, workshops, courses, and training sessions. "We want to bring the digital ecosystem closer to older adults to break down inequality barriers, promote their citizen participation, and raise awareness about the importance of online safety and personal data protection to prevent fraudulent behavior," stated Delgado.
For her part, the Director General of Older Adults and Active Participation, Verónica Meseguer, assured that the initiative responds to the group's demand for equitable access to technology. "Training on the challenges and opportunities offered by digital transformation is key to preventing contexts of social vulnerability and ensuring the full integration of older adults into society," said Meseguer.
This agreement is part of the Plan Maresía, developed by the Directorate General of Older Adults and Active Participation, which includes initiatives to reduce the intergenerational gap and promote the inclusion of this group.
