The Tenerife Island Council, through the Island Craftsmanship Company, and the Candelaria City Council have inaugurated the IV Patrona de Canarias Craft Fair. This event, now a fixture on the cultural calendar, brings together around twenty artisans in the Plaza de los Pescadores until next Sunday, August 2nd. Visiting hours are from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, and the mayoress of Candelaria, Mari Brito, toured the exhibition. Medina highlighted the fair's importance in boosting the artisan sector and safeguarding Canarian heritage, stating that 'each piece displayed contains a fragment of the Canarian essence.' For her part, Brito emphasized that the fair is a benchmark for citizens and visitors, valuing the traditions and talent of local artisans.
The mayoress stressed that the event marks the transition between the patron saint festivals and reinforces the link between cultural manifestations and the heritage of the Canary Islands. She invited everyone to visit the Plaza de los Pescadores to enjoy this encounter with craftsmanship.
The fair features 13 craft modalities, including historical trades such as lacework, basket weaving, and rosetas, alongside proposals in patchwork, carpentry, candle making, fabric decoration, enameling, leatherwork, modeling, dressmaking, doll making, and glasswork. The venue offers information services and card payment facilities to facilitate purchases.
