The Cabildo de Tenerife has given the green light to the tender for the rehabilitation of the Southern Highway (TF-1), specifically the section connecting Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Güímar, with an investment of 16 million euros, and has increased the budget for the Los Cristianos Interchange.

The island president, in a recent press conference, detailed that the works on the TF-1 will cover approximately 18.3 kilometers. This investment adds to the 30 million euros already allocated in 2025 for the stretch between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar. The road surface rehabilitation project has an execution period of six months and will be divided into two lots: one for the section between Santa Cruz and El Rosario, with an investment of 8.9 million, and another for the section from El Rosario to Güímar, valued at 7.2 million euros.
Additionally, the Governing Council has approved a 120,000 euro budget increase for the Los Cristianos Interchange project and the undergrounding of Chayofita Avenue. These infrastructures are considered strategic for mobility in the south of the island, an area that currently handles a high volume of port and tourist traffic. The expansion aims to extend the project's scope to offer greater transit capacity and connectivity at key points in the municipality.
The contract modification will adapt the action to the new mobility demands of the El Mojón Partial Plan and align it with the industrial facilities of the interchange. This involves extending the undergrounding of Chayofita Avenue to Pedregales Street, exceeding the initially planned scope that ended at Juan Carlos I Avenue (TF-665). Additional features include a new entrance/exit to the El Mojón Partial Plan area and the expansion of two exit lanes from the underground section with connections to Juan Carlos I Avenue and Hermano Pedro Avenue (TF-655). It also includes the adaptation of all technical facilities of the interchange, such as telecommunications, security, sanitation, and fire protection systems, given that more than 6,000 vehicles circulate through the Chayofita roundabout every hour.
In other matters, the Governing Council of the Tenerife Cabildo has approved the statutes for the creation of the Urban Conservation Entity of the Valle de Güímar Industrial Park. This entity will allow the island corporation to take the lead in managing this industrial space, considered key for the island. The creation of this entity seeks to reverse the inadequate maintenance and lack of continuity that has affected the industrial park in recent years, leading to a loss of value in this strategic area.
The new entity will establish a public-private collaboration model, where plot owners will share co-responsibility for the maintenance of urbanized works with the municipalities of Güímar, Arafo, and Candelaria, and the Cabildo itself. The administrations will cover up to 55% of the expenses, while the owners will assume the remaining 45% through fees calculated according to their participation in the park's areas and sections.
