The incident occurred after 12:25 PM, when the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert about a male who had collapsed. The rapid response of those present, guided by a nurse from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) via remote assistance, was fundamental in initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers.
A decisive factor in the chain of survival was the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) available at the Casa de las Artes facilities. Under the telephone guidance of the 112 nurse, the device was applied to the patient, delivering the necessary shocks to attempt to restore heart rhythm before the arrival of medical teams.
Minutes later, SUC personnel, with a medicalized ambulance and a basic life support ambulance, along with healthcare staff from the Los Realejos health center, continued with advanced resuscitation maneuvers. After several minutes of intense work, they successfully reversed the man's cardiorespiratory arrest.
“"In the event of a cardiorespiratory arrest, every second counts. Loss of time drastically reduces the chances of survival or increases the risk of severe neurological sequelae."
Once stabilized, the patient was transferred in critical condition to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC), where he remains under strict medical surveillance. The Local Police actively collaborated in the operation, clearing routes to ensure a rapid transfer. This event highlights the importance of having cardioprotected spaces and first aid training in public places.
