The Emergency Service of the Gran Canaria University Hospital Insular has expanded its pioneering project ‘More Inclusive Emergency’, incorporating the collaboration of the Sororidad Mujeres Víctimas de Violencia Association to improve care quality.

This initiative, pioneering in Canary Islands hospital emergencies, is part of the action lines of the Canary Islands Health Service's humanization plan. The objective is to address and improve the quality of care for different groups and their companions.
The project, initiated at the end of last year, aims to optimize access, attention, and communication in critical moments. Through training with experts, practical simulations, and debates, staff are being equipped with specific skills to interact with diverse groups.
The program has included care for individuals with autism, in collaboration with the ADEPSI Association, to provide emergency staff with practical tools and knowledge and reduce stress in attending to these patients.
Furthermore, care for deaf individuals has been addressed, in collaboration with the Funcasor Association. Staff are acquiring basic notions of sign language, developing communication skills, and learning to use facial expressions appropriately.
This initiative, which began in the Emergencies of the Gran Canaria University Hospital Insular, aims to extend to other emergencies within the Hospital Complex and continue expanding with new training, following the person-centered healthcare strategy of the Canary Islands Health Service.
