The plenary hall of the Gran Canaria Island Council will be the venue this Monday and Tuesday for the tenth State of the Island Debate organized by the corporation. These sessions have been led in all their editions by Antonio Morales, at the head of various left-wing coalitions.
The meeting will serve to contrast the policies implemented by the current island government, composed of Nueva Canarias (NC) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), against the criticisms raised by the opposition groups: Partido Popular (PP), Coalición Canaria (CC), and Vox.
Following the established protocol, the debate, officially named the Debate on the General Orientation of Island Policy, will commence at 10:00 AM with the president's address. Subsequently, the spokespersons of the five political groups represented in the Council will speak, ordered from least to most representation.
After the initial interventions, the president will speak again, followed by a second round of interventions by the spokespersons in the same order. The first day will conclude with a final address by President Morales.
Once the first session concludes, the political groups will have until 4:30 PM to submit a maximum of ten resolution proposals. These proposals will be evaluated by the Spokespersons' Board the following day, before the start of the second day of the debate.
The second session, scheduled for Tuesday starting at 10:30 AM, will begin with the presentation of each block of proposals by the group spokespersons, following the same order from least to most representation. Following this, the president will present any unanimously approved proposals, if any, and the session will culminate with the voting on all resolutions.
The first State of the Island Debate took place in 2017, and since then it has been held on different dates throughout the year.
