The Guiniguada viaduct southbound on the GC-3, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, will reopen to traffic this afternoon, between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, once asphalting works are finished.

The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria is finalizing details for the reopening of the south deck of the Guiniguada viaduct, on the GC-3 ring road. Workers began asphalting the deck on Sunday, expected to conclude after approximately 36 hours of work, following the completion of the structure's waterproofing.
The full reopening of the viaduct, which has caused a notable increase in traffic in the lower part of the city, occurs after 16 days of waterproofing works, finishing 13 days ahead of the initially planned date of August 30. The northbound lane was completed in less than seven days.

"We are advancing the repair of this viaduct, so important for Gran Canaria's mobility, by 15 days in total, but we must remember that our initial projections were to finish on the 30th, with 29 days of work"

Augusto Hidalgo · Island Councilor for Public Works
The waterproofing works on the southbound lane, completed on Friday afternoon, involved laying 10,800 square meters of asphalt felt on a deck that is longer and has curves compared to the northbound lane. On Saturday, the contractor, Lopesan, completed complementary works and prepared the waterproofed surface for asphalting.
On Monday, the final pavement layer, a special micro-asphalt designed for rapid rainwater drainage, will be applied. Road markings are expected to be painted by midday, allowing the viaduct to open to traffic in the afternoon or, at the latest, by night, provided no incidents like rain or asphalt supply failures occur.
In total, over 18,000 square meters have been waterproofed on both decks of the viaduct, an infrastructure in service for over 20 years that had not been waterproofed before. Councilor Augusto Hidalgo recalled that three years ago, a risk of collapse was detected due to rainwater infiltration, leading to three years of internal safety work before this final phase.
This work is part of a comprehensive project to resurface 11 kilometers of the GC-3, awarded for 18,722,343 euros. The waterproofing, carried out by Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones, represents an investment of 2.2 million euros. The Cabildo requests citizen cooperation and recommends planning travel and using public transport.
